The Power of 3’s*

You’ve seen this little writing “power tool” time and time – and time – again.

These examples will make it clear:

  • Wynken, Blynken and Nod
  • Moe, Larry and Curly
  • Signed, Sealed, Delivered
  • Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
  • Tall, dark and handsome
  • No ifs, ands, or buts

Grouping things in 3’s is a handy writing tool you should use. Why? A list of 3 rolls off the tongue. It’ll make your writing more engaging.

*Note that it’s OK to use an apostrophe here, because it’s easier on the eyes…and less awkward looking, though “3s” is totally acceptable.
