I Feel a Blog Coming on
The Bee Gees may have started a joke, but I started a blog. For a long time, I’ve wanted to write about marketing, and now, with the launch of my new business, I can!
While my weekly newsletter will continue to cover how print and digital media intersect*, this blog will take a broader look at how companies are marketing themselves with all sorts of tools across lots of channels.
Some days I’ll be writing as a consumer. Other days, I’ll be writing as a small business owner. And I’ll also post comments from my ‘day job’: a marketing specialist in the graphic arts industry. (I’m a bit like Eve, what with these three faces and all.)
Regardless, I hope my blog provides valuable food for thought about marketing techniques, tools, media channels, relevancy, faux pas, trends, and predictions.
After all, marketing is one of the reasons I created my new business. I’m fascinated by it. I am drawn to learning more about marketing practices than any other business topic.
I pay attention to how companies market to my teenage son (soon to be a college freshman) and to what marketing messages he responds. As mail volumes shrink, I study the interesting stuff that comes to my home and my office daily. I like to see who’s using newer techniques like QR codes and AR codes. An email marketer going way back to 1999, I note the hundreds of daily emails I get (what an onslaught!), and I can’t help but grade them for effectiveness.
Yup, I’m keeping my eye on all things Marketing. A blogging I will go.
Stay tuned for my posts – and do share your own thoughts!
