They are not at all the same type of content.
For some reason, companies are commingling Blog entries with News items on their sites. Why? Is it because of space limitations?
A web site’s navigational system guides visitors to specific information they seek. If I want to reach you or know where you are located, I’ll look for the “Contact” section. If I want to check out your services, I’ll head to “Services” or “What We Do.” In each case, I expect to find certain information. Too often, I see Blogs listed in a News section, and vice versa.
A Blog post is not a News item, the same way that an apple is not an orange.
Blogs are for sharing your opinions, insights, and helpful tips. News posts are for sharing company-related announcements; they tend to be more formal. (And you should have a lot more blog posts than news items.)
Don’t lump your Blogs in with your News. It’s confusing, and it devalues them.
